I have built about 8 four string gits and 2 three strings.  I like them both, but I am not really a player.  I think the 3 strings have some advantages, but I am not sure what they are other than being slightly easier to build and play.

Also wondering about converting a 4 to a 3.  Simply take off a string?  Or should the nut and bridge be modified to get proper string spacing?

I would like to hear some opinions on this from veteran players/builders.

  • they are your instruments, you can do what you want with them.  Shane converts 6 string guitars to 5 string by cutting the 6th string and bob's your uncle.

Or you can re-do the nut/bridge to move the strings to a more centered position.

Lots of other folks would say "build another" instead, LOL
