So we have all been there your up to the final step of mounting a regular mono output jack only to find the box lid or side is to thick to just drill a hole and be done with it. Yah I have been there grabbing the dremal and try to thin that area can be a real pain in the brass nut.
I was at Ace hardware store and came upon a plastic 1" plug they sell for 75 cents so I grabbed one drilled a hole in the middle and inserted a jack into it then drilled a 1" hole in box and this little plug just snaps in ( I did add some epoxy glue just to be sure it will not come out later down the road).
This tip may not be for ever builder but for 75 cents it beats the time and frustration of the old way of thinning the area for a jack with out a plate ( also cheaper that a plate)attached are pictures

If olyy they came in different colors.
That's Nasty Wayfinder.

Krylon Dual rattle can. Comes in awesome black. Oh yeah, other colors, too.

Very nifty Shawn. Do you know what the plugs are originally used for?

looks like a what we call a blind gromet. used to close holes in metalwork.

seen a similar thing for closing off tubing in furniture. bunnings have them. https://www.bunnings.com.au/tic-32mm-round-black-plastic-internal-c...

I've used 3/4" brass closet door finger pulls. you get a package of 4 for $2.50 and they press fit into a 3/4" hole.

Yah I have used them but drilling them was a bloody mess as it spun and cut my finger and I could not play for a week.
@Timothy. Bunnings to the rescue. Clark Rubber stock rubber grommets http://www.clarkrubber.com.au/blind-grommet.html

yeah saw those but as they are flexible i wasnt sure... i bought 4 of the 12mm ones to fill in the holes when i took the roof rails off my car..lol

as for Bunnings, well they are doing a great trade form me lately... just spemt another $30 on rasps, sanding blocks and some loctite super glue gel. Aussie sellys is crap as wayfinder said 3 dabs of the loctite glue and i could file the split pin fret and its still stuck hard to the test fretboard !

nice tip and clean look too
