The Alelienator

I'm neither a musician or a luthier, simply someone who likes to make things that bring joy and laughter. First and foremost Thanks and Praise to this amazing and generous community of makers, it's a been a revelation and a joy. Special shout-out to Joel Eckhaus, the creator of the Hootchulele for inspiration and the genesis of this CBG.

The Alelienator is my first CBG and was built for a Burnside Brewery as a thank-you for all the beer they have generously donated to ADX; the community workshop I volunteer at here in Portland. The materials that were not gleaned from the scrap bin at the shop were sourced from C.B. Gitty [super stuff and extraordinary service]. I'll let the picture speak for themselves but for those interested in the details of the build I'll be happy to share plans etc but the short version is all the key design decisions were driven by the size of the 22 oz bottle. Consequently I had to build my "cigar box" and the scale for the finished piece ended up being 27". The neck is fret-less and designed to be played with a slide because I simply ran out of time. How does it play, meh about as good as you'd expect a guitar with a beer bottle and two glasses inside of it, but it does play ;-). It was huge fun to build and the start of a lot of great conversations around the shop. I also want to give thanks to Ed Bartlett, another ADX member who IS a luthier and gave me a lot of sage counsel and guidance.
