I wanted a way to check speakers out before I use them for builds so I came up with this last night. Works very well. I just plug one of my gits in and clip the gators to the respective speaker leads and strum away to check the speaker before I cut holes and mount everything only to find out I don't like the sound or worse yet I used a dead speaker.

When I'm not using it the wires slide back in the box and it goes back up on the shelf. Nothin' fancy but does the job. I am always on the hunt for speakers and I do tend to come across a lot of speakers so this way I can check them as I get em' and chuck the ones I don't want.

I'm sure it's been done before but this is just my version of the Testing speakers/Speaker tester.

I believe I'll call it the "Burgermeister"

What would also be fantastic is a speaker cabinet you could drop the test speakers into easily. A sounding box makes SUCH a difference to the sound a speaker can generate.

You are correct young man, I guess I have heard enough speakers "out of the box" that I can kinda tell if it will pan out for a build. The only problem I have with having a box to drop them in is, I use every different size and shape of speaker known to mankind. Biggest thing is knowing if the speaker works, 2nd is sound and after a guy hears a couple hundred you get to where you can tell what works and what don't. Sure is fun during the ride to get to that point, I'll let you know if/when I finally arrive;-)

Fair enough. I figure a box with an open face and then a number of covers with different size holes would allow a drop in capability but, hey, if it ain't broke...

Absolutly that would work Tom. Even a cardboard box will give a guy an idea of how full it will or will not sound.

Good idea.

That first photo makes me smile.   I got to see that work area in person.  I plan to steal the idea to lay down a carpet scrap like you have to work on gits.

Thanks John! Been thinkin' about it for some time I just hadta act on it.  Yep, John got to see the small but versatile cabin on his first visit. I can invision some mini jam sessions this winter in the cabin with John, have a few beers and maybe a stogie and watch the ice go down the river. Crank out some blues eh?

The carpet kinda keeps things from getting scratched up and from sliding around. You gotta move it when you go to soldering though, figured that out the hard way. Something other than my cigar was burning and it did not smell good:-)
