Here's my submission. I always thought that banjos had a bit of a metallic sound. So I thought, Why not build a banjo with a metal reso? This 5 string banjo sports a cone I made from a hand spun vegetable can lid. The neck is a piece of recycled oak and the fretboard is cherry. I used a paper hole punch into (veneer!) for dot markers and also some buttons. The tailpiece was made from a recycled piece of aluminum door track. Maple biscuit and a sandwiched piezo. Happy New Year to all builders!

Here's my submission for the build contest. It's a Sitka Spruce topped, three string acoustic. The back is made of an old wiskey crate and the sides and neck are made of Mahogany. The neck has a non adjustable Martin style truss rod, which might be a little overkill, but can't hurt. The top is Sitka Spruce with a Cocobolo stripe down the middle and the binding is also made of Cocobolo. The fret board is Ebony and has my typical 38 spl. bullet casing fretmarkers. The headstock is veneered with Cocobolo as well and I used Grover open gear tune machines. The bridge is a pinless bridge and the strings come up from underneath and catch into a slotted hole in the top. This thing is my loudest build to date, really has a crisp tone to it for sure, hopefully i can get some vid up of it soon.

nice guitar but you need to use a cigar box for this contest  , i wanted to use a metal box for mine darn rules .

Thanks Hal - I am working on a LaAurora box that has a Lion right in the middle of the box -  that headstock will be a lion's pal  :)

Here is my entry - Lefty Brick House.  24.5" scale.  Tuning area at neck is designed like a brick.  Staining on neck and fret board is a combination of many different colors that give a very weathered/dirty feel.  Poplar neck, Red Oak fret board.  Open G tuning.  Except for the nut and bridge (thanks to Pat's Hardware in Freeland, MI) all parts are CB Gitty powered.  Sounds clean unplugged and screams like a wild man electrified.  Fret markers are on the neck and are brass nails/tacks.

We are closing this discussion thread and notifying the judges that they can go ahead and being reviewing the entries to select our winners.

Good luck everyone!!
