String noise
I have built a fretless CBG on which I’ve had to use a humbucker as the box was too thin to be resonant, with a through neck. When I try to play it I get a lot of percussive noise when I put slide to string. I accept that this may be a result of my playing inexperience, but I wonder if anyone has any tips to aid my progress. I use a glass slide and have got used to damping whenever I slide down the fretboard.

Hi Michael, could it be that the pickup has contact with the neck. Or the strings too close to the pickup.
As Brian suggests it’s hard to diagnose problem without see Lin or hearing the guitar.
It may be your style, if you pick the string just before putting the slide on the string, that can cause unwanted noise.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s my slide technique. If I’m slow and deliberate everything sounds ok, but it’s when I try to speed things up it gets clumsy. If you can imagine an unfelted hammer hitting a piano string, that’s the noise I’m getting. Old arthritic hands don’t help.
