Hi all have made 9 CBG's so far and the two last have some pick up issues, both have single Strat style pick ups. #8 0nly registers amplified sound when the tone and volume pots are fully cranked and the little 9 v battery amp is cranked up too. #9 same style pickup with tone and volume pots while it registers plenty of volume the pickup doesn't registerd the B string when tuned to DGBD. Have I just got two dodgy pick ups our am I the dodgy maker????? Any advice appreciated Cheers Alex

  • Alex,

On the second one, is the B string actually over one of, as opposed to between, the pole pieces? Does the pickup register the B if it is tuned to some other note? Have you tried adjusting the pole piece height slightly closer to the offending string?

On the first, it sounds like the resistance is too high for a proper signal to go through unless the tone and vol pots are cranked all the way up. This may be due to your soldering. Get yerself a multimeter, and check all the leads and solder joints. Sounds like you may have a cold solder joint somewhere that needs redoing. Or, there may be something wrong with the pickup itself. Guitar Fetish has cheapo Strat-style pickups that often work just fine. But sometimes you can get a bad one. But I'd check the solder joints first.
