  • Yes, it will sound a million miles away on a 3-string fretless/slide CBG, but is that a bad thing?
  • Thanx

  • I just realised the album version of that song that I have is actually a semitone lower in overall pitch. I wonder if in that video his guitar was tuned up half a step (which seems weird, cos he could just use a capo), or if the sound on that video is funny or something.
  • Are you sure that's not actually tuned up a semitone rather than down? I think it is tuned F, Bb , Eb etc . Alternatively you could just put a capo on the first fret.
  • The best guitar lesson I ever got I ordered from a guitar magazine- I don't remember the name of it- it came on 2 or 3 cassettes(remember those?) He gave me a great tip. Kenni does something similiar when he teaches also- Use your voice as an instrument. If you can hear the notes in your head and hum it - even if you think you have a terrible voice( who cares!)- you will be able to find the notes much easier and more quickly on your instrument. The greatest freedom in music that I have found is when you don't have to rely on Tablature to learn songs and you can start writing your own. Now, if I could just remember all the words to those songs... I don"t think I'll ever master that!

    Good Luck,

  • You got some great clues from the video. He is using standard chords, so we might assume it is tuned in standard, but lower. Figure out that low six string note and go from there. I wonder if that is a baritone guitar. Sounds pretty low. Sometimes, figuring out songs takes real work, but usually it is well worth the effort. Keep digging in. Sounds like a good learning experience. Enjoy.
  • Well, he appears to be using standard chord forms here...He may be tuned down a half-step or even a full step since the instrument (an Ovation) sounds overall rather low. Hard to tell.
  • When i say another tuning, i mean like GDG as Bob looks to only play 3 strings in the start of this song
