Has anyone tried sound ports on a CBG.
I have cut one in an old EKO acoustic and it worked quite well, I could hear myself better at a jam.
I will put one in my next CBG.
I tried to copy and paste a pic of a sound port, to see examples clik this link.

Nope, but it makes sense!
I guess some of the guys must have done this, especially with license plate builds where its more difficult to put soundholes on the front.
Some o those soundholes are real nice by the way!!
that is a great idea when doing acoustic stuff.
will check chance of doing a nice design as in the refered link.
Thanks for the tip.
I've never seen that idea before, but it does make sense. I might try that on the acoustic/electric CB bass thats in the planning stage, do my own before & after test. Thanks for the tip
I have written an article about the value of these for CBGs. You can download it as it is in PDF form. I am all for them. The design is purely aesthetic, in theory the position should be high in the bouts, (Like the top "corner")

It is found under the discussion "Wot! No articles.

It is under a discussion about position of sound holes about page 4 of that discussion.

I think this URL will get you to the discussion start page. If not search on Forums for Wot.

if you like the look of yur box and dont want to put holes in the top, try this. it looks cool and sounds great.

It works good - I have used the method in box guitars and have also put front facing sound holes in hollow lap steels such as my 'old hollow legs'

i'm sure Bigdaddy Darren Dukes has done this before on his licence plate resos (as Ben mentioned ) - i can now see why the guitar always sounds better when you give it someone else to play - besides them been a better player lol!
juju.
HUH? Both pictures look the same to me!?

Nice use of sound ports here I'd say,.....

I just put one in my last build yesterday as the sound holes on the front of the cbg had to be small due to the design. Opened it up nicely.

good job Paul. a hole in the side of that build should give you more volume.

I used sound ports on my last build and it worked out just fine, plus it saved the good looks of the top of the box.
