I've had an idea for a new design and wanted to see if anyone had tried this yet... My next guitar is a Firebird inspired guitar and what I wanted to do was move the sound holes to the top side of the body, parallel with the neck... So that when you looked at the guitar from the head, you would see the sound holes on either side of the neck... but from the front, you would see nothing.  Essentially, it would come off kind of like a hood scoop.

Ideas?

  • Sounds like a good idea. I would just worry about it in a structural sense weakening that area. Pep boys sells ports for fenders u might be able to work them in to add strength.
  • Sounds cool - look online for boat vents - they may be what you're looking for - not sure about sizing though.  If your scoop idea works, maybe consider NACA scoops for the next one....

  • Yeah, MM is right. I put a sound hole on the bottom back edge one time ... I was never able to finish a song because the last few notes kept falling out!

  • WHATEVER YOU DO...

... Do not put the sound holes on the bottom or the lower notes will come out first.
