When you solder a wire to the white part of a piezo, do you scrape off a little of the white so the solder sticks or do you just solder to it?

I'm getting ready to try one.

.... or buy ready soldered piezos on ebay for less than a dollar a piece :o)
Or are they only available in the UK??
When I got the piezo's for my first build I didn't like the thin quality of the wires that came on them so I clipped them off and soldered on telephone wires, with the hot wire on the ceramic crystal part I scraped a little spot and made an anchor to the metal with a drop of solder, then I soldered the wire over the ceramic part from that anchor and it worked really well.

I made up two piezo's that way for the build and was surprised at how well they pick up.
I didn't know solder would stick to ceramic. thanks for the input.
the ceramic has a thin conductive coating that you solder to . too much heat can break it loose, so be careful. piezos are like a sandwitch of brass/ceramic/ and the thin conductive foil.

Thanks Jim, looks like I was over worring it. I think I can handle that.

Do not scratch the ceramic. You can solder on it but be careful to not get it too hot or the ceramic will be ruined. the metal is the ground so you can solder your ground anyplace on it.
