Hi, I thought it might be a good idea to show some of the many tools and jigs I have made over the years, instead of buying them They may not be your cup of tea, you may not need them, but I may inspire you to be creative in your thinking.

As I mentioned in a previous post, out of all the tools and jigs in the Stumac catalogue I have made 53 of them for myself. Often before they appeared in their catalogue. Most are not original and many are created from just seeing a photo of the tool or jig.

To kick things off I'll show some of the knives I have made or modified. Sometimes two  knives come from the one blade of a bigger kitchen or boning knives.

Still to come is a host of different  hand saws, a half a dozen different style clamps, power tool attachments and misc. other converted  hand tools.

Feel free to add to the list.

Cheers Taff

Hand fret press adapted from window glazing point tool, works perfectly, no hammering in frets.

I have one somewhere - have to give this a whirl.

I like that, very creative

I'll have to try that one out soon.

Saws………I posted this in the wrong place earlier...

These photos show two Japanese pull saw blades I bought, no handles, for about $12.00 each. I put a handle on one of them, but as the blade was pretty thin and flexible I had to modify it and others,

What I did was to take the blades out of non-serviceable backsaws, cut the pull saws to the size I needed, and fitted them in their place. I also made blades shorter so less flexible.

Also shown are some other specialty saws one using hacksaw blades, all have their own special uses.

The hacksaw modified saw can have blades added to cut different size slots, in a bridge for a saddle, for instance. A slot is shown cut into a scrap of ebony three blades wide.

Like those ideas.

Thanks Craig.

Hi, Here is my next offering. On the no hammering fretting method.

This press was made out of one of the hobby drill press that one puts their electric hand drill into. Or you could use your existing drill press if you have one.

I bolt it to the bench and set it up as shown. I use the brass fittings from Stumac. I can fret fingerboards only or the complete neck/fingerboard.

Cheers Taff.

should be able to modify my old bottle capper . gone to PET bottles for home brew now...

Does Stew Mac offer a non radius brass fitting?

Item #4375 for $4.86

Yes they do that's what I use. or you could buy your favorite radius and put it in the holder upside down, you'll just have to file a suitable groove in the flat side to locate the fret.
