Shipping Boxes??

Does anyone have a good source for boxes to ship CBG's in? I just went to the UPS store and they charged a rediculous amount to pkg the guitar and to top it off they had to tape a few boxes together to even fit! There has got to be a better way! Any help will be appreciated as I have a few orders that will need to be shipped as well. Thanks! Tim

  • All great ideas. Thanks much. I've only been here a few days know and am learning a ton of stuff. I appreciate you all!
  • Correct, all boxes sould be cut down to size, less filler needed too.

I live right near a furniture store. I ship everything with used boxes I get from dumpster diving. Takes a little time to cut to size, but saves a ton of money. Also saves shipping costs when you fit the box to the guitar instead of paying for extra length and width.

  • What Mort said ...
Another option for "roll your own" material is furniture outfits and appliance stores .
Rent-a-Center and Maytag stores rock ....
Washer/dryer boxes and a hotglue gun will save you a bunch of $$ .
And no telling what you'll find freight damaged in the dumpster .....
  • Thank you SO much! I knew there was something better. Those boxes on uline look great and I have a U Haul place just a few blocks away. Thanks again!

  • If you want to buy some off the shelf, Uhaul has lamp boxes that are about 36 inches long and work pretty good. They are about 5 bucks apiece. Not as cheap as online, but if you need one quickly, you can just run over there and pick one up.
  • Look in your phone book, in the business section, there are industrial paper/cardboard box companies that may have a stock box the size you need, might even give you a deal if you buy a 1000 pack.
If you are only talking about one or two guitars to ship, you can make your own boxes. You can buy sheets of cardboard and fabricate you own. However, if you plan on production, you can have boxes custom made for your size, if you buy by the gross.
You can buy boxes on line through ULINE packaging supplies, http://www.uline.com/BL_406/Long-Boxes I see for $1.35 each, you can buy a 36 x 10 x 10 box if you buy 25 bozes.
or Associated Bag supply. But snoop around and collect big boxes, you can cut them down, splice together, and fab your own. I make my own, thats my specialty, I have several years in the shipping and receiving department in my last employment.
