  • Hey there,

    I'm from Ireland and nearly finished my first build. I got a box for nothing from a Cigar shop. Like yourself the Health Warning was glued on by Satans Helpers and ruined the lovely Romeo & Juliet Box. I decided to strip. Peel off as much as you can by hand. Then get yourself some sandpaper (150ish plus) and a can of lighter fluid. Takes a little while so be patient. Squirt, rub, squirt, rub.... try not to sand too hard. It will come off, just BE PATIENT. You will be left with a very light coloured wood box. I then used an oil based wood dye (Colron), lightly sanded, applied again...etc. I then applied Danish Oil. Then sanded with high grade wet'n'dry using the Danish Oil again and then rub down with cloth to fill in any crevices with the residue/pulp from the wet'n'dry rub.

  • I found a good way to remove glue residue. I took a few pieces of tissue paper and put on top of the box. I then ironed the paper (without steam) which made the glue melt and seep into the paper.

  • Yes, I agree, the best way to remove those warning labels is with a heat gun. It works great. Then use denatured alcohol for the sticky residual clean up.
    • The hair dryer works great for the label removal but I lost a little color on the paper box label when I used denatured alcohol.  I had better results removing the glue with some lighter fluid on a paper towel.

  • I use a blow dryer and a single-edged razor blade to remove the label, then Goo Gone or Naptha to remove any leftover adhesive. Depending on the age of the box and the label, some come off really cleanly without needing the razor blade. Just take your time, heat it with the blow dryer, and slowly work the blade under the edge of the label a little at a time. You'll feel it loosening up. I find that when I get one end of the label loose, folding it back on itself and pulling along the length of the label works best, but your mileage may vary.

  • Easily removed with one of these...(-;

    Goo Gone would work...
