Hello everyone, I just wanted to make a quick post about the recent changes here at CBN. As many of you already know, I took over running Cigar Box nation from its founder, Shane Speal. While there was a financial side to it, the transition was marked by friendship and cooperation. While I have made some minor tweaks and changes, including a redesign of the site look and feel, I am committed to keeping CBN much the same as it has always been without major changes: a bustling, vibrant community that is the headquarters of the cigar box guitar movement.

Late last week, once the final steps of the ownership transition was complete, Shane Speal chose to leave Cigar Box Nation entirely, deleting his account from the server. Unfortunately as part of this all of the content he had created and contributed over the years was also deleted. I have spoken to him about this and he wanted me to let everyone know he is very sorry about this - he did not mean to delete his content from the Nation. While we are all sad to see Shane step away from the nation, I truly hope that it is the right step for him and that in time he will be able to return to the community he founded. As I have said before, to me he is and always will be the king of the cigar box guitar.

We are coming up on the third anniversary of Cigar Box Nation on December 10, and I am confident that with the support and contributions of so many great members we will continue to grow and thrive. I would also like to thank all of you that have taken the time to offer congratulations and give advice. I appreciate it!

  • What ever happened to Diane in Chicago's article that was featured in the C.B.Gitty website - the link is broken and I couldn't find it on the C.B. Gitty website at all. If there is no room for it on the C.B.Gitty website, how about moving it to this web site (www.cigarboxnation.com) so we can still access the information. Same probably for the other articles I remember on the C.B.Gitty site which I also assume to be inaccessible. Thanks.

    • The articles are still on cbgitty.com. They are fairly easy to find using the search feature. Here is Diane's article:

  •  Been gone a little while, saddened to hear that Shane has left us,but in Ben's hands,I know it will continue to be the premeier CBG site.Love the changes thus far, keep on keepin' on!

  • Hi Ben, you are doing fine, all groups need a change at the top from time to time to keep moving forward. ´´G´´

  • In with the new, but respect ta the old, ma motto. Only been a member 2 months or so, but feel really welcome, so good luck ta one and all :)

  • i liked the old CBN i like the new CBN the real worth of this site is the people on this site whitch Ben and Shane are a part of. but so are all of you. the bells and whistles are nice but the wealth of ALL our knowledge and the freindly nature of CBN makes this a great site.

  • Ben,

    Re: Pictures pages.

I see that 20 thumbnails is the default view on each page. However, this (due to the side-ads etc) leaves 2/3 of the page empty.

Is there an option here to display 50-60 pics per page maybe?

Cheers, and keep up the great work ... Naz x

  • Hi

I joined CBN a while back. I am an avid blues lover and write an international blues report featuring blues of all types but with a real love for delta style blues. I even ran a feature on building cigar box guitars a while back. My report always includes photos and videos. I would love it if I could get participation from this group. When I can find contemporary players like Super Chikan or Moreland and Arbuckle I feature them. I am especially pleased to find old footage of players using old boxes. If anyone wanted to contribute articles or just post videos on my wall to do the work myself that would be fine. BTW my box was built by Wichita Sam... and of course everyone is welcome. Also happy just to feature a story on the group if anyone is so inclined.

    Anyone interested?
