I have been meaning to put this one together for a while and with quarantine lasting, I had time to get it done.

The Diddley Bow canjo is much more in line with a traditional Canjo; an open top tin for the body a length of wood, in my case half a length of a 28mm dowel, screwed to the inside of it, 1 String and 1 Piezo straight into a jack.

Mine features a unique addition. I have cut the neck in half at an angle and then reattached the 2 halves with a hinge. sounds unusual, but once strung, the tension of the 58 gauge Ernie Ball, which is fed through the back of base of the tin, holds the everything solid and straight, allowing for stable playing.

I'm very pleased with this, when folded, it has a length of 15 inches and fits in my work bag quite comfortable, so I can bring it everywhere and play as I ride the rails coming and going everyday.

What you guys think?

  •  Gonna try for the folding neck JP.  If I can ever get my hands on a mill, I'm gonna try building a three string with a telescoping fretless neck. Got the design pretty much figured out, I think, another "One of these days..." projects.

    • I wish you luck, I look forward to seeing what you create.

I must admit, I've never seen a telescopic neck before, it should be interesting.

  • pretty cool ;-)

    • Thank you kindly Pick

  • I LOVE it! Very well done! Been wanting to do this same thing, but haven't had time. You have inspired me to get it done ASAP! Got a soft spot for Diddley bows in all of their varieties. Hope mine turns out as nicely.. Can we hear it, can we hear it?

    • Thank you kindly Ray, there is nothing like a good Diddlley Bow, especially a Canjo.

I'm afraid you guys can't hear it, I lack any recording equipment, audio or visual.

I wish you luck with you Diddley Bow. I got to ask, are you going to use a can as well and are you going to try for a folding neck as well?
