When I found this site I thought I would build one or two guitars and move on to something else. But, I've seen some wildly creative instruments on this site that have provided me with a constant source of inspiration. Now I'm 30 instruments in and still going strong.

I think it would be fun to post pictures of the builds the we're the most proud of.

Don't feel limited to guitars. I've seen some homemade jigs, tools, drum kicks, and lots of other things that're both artistic and marvels of backyard engineering.

So lets each post one pick that's the best of what we've designed and built.

Are there any pickups that would not work as well with some wood between the strings and the pickup?

Sounds really intriguing. I'll be interested to see what kinds of designs you come up with. Keep on posting. You've got good ideas!

weak, under wound pick ups wouldn't work well. It's more of an issue of the distance from the strings then interference from the wood.

not made one yet thats a keeper but just made this for my brother inlaw.

I built this one just before Christmas 2013. I had built some like it with spruce tops and pine backs, but he wanted a darker guitar.  So I asked him how about all oak. He went for it When it was ready he brought a little 5 watt tube amp with him to try it out.  It just purred.  The volume and tone knobs are vintage one that I was able to pick up.

Instead of anything I've built, I'd like to submit a couple of my all-time favorites from the countless number of great submissions here. Different builders with diverse concepts, exceptional creativity and superb results::

-The Phrygian Kid's sensuous/sexy “THC” (top)

-Bluesheart’s as-original-as-they-come “Splinter Pig” (bottom)

The Phrygian Kid makes great, very organic looking guitars. Love his stuff.

Yes, Jeff has a knack for creating some great things.

Ha snap! He loves yours more x

TEA –N- TEA

MY  FIRST   “  BUILD”   . AND STILL  FIRST LOVE .

2 mini  tea boxes  .   (who  says    small  boxes are  useless  ?)  ;-)

detachable potato masher for a lap rest .. with a bracelet cuff attached ,
Turn it sideways and it sits, and looks like a gun ;-) the yardstick fretboard is cool and vintage , and with the booze flask spout makes the neck look like a chimney or smoke stack when standing up . the curved wood holding the electronics is a berry picking basket handle . with a vintage  teisco   switchplate  and  pups  , the pole the turners are on is the arm for a window scraper .   NOTE THE  TUNERS  INBETWEEN THE  PICKUPS .
The  HEADLESS  wrap around string design was a pain in the butt ,, but looks cool

The tac fret markers on the neck is also a cool design .. and allowable because she’s a slider .but the raised narrow yard stick fret board allows for fingering also.
Call her 'steam punk" if you want .. but that was not really what I was going for , it just developed into this and took on a life of its own ;-)
Hope you like her ;-)
I absolutely love this thing   and  still  have  her  ;-)

One of the coolest I've ever seen, Pick, for real.

thanx  man  ;-)
