When I found this site I thought I would build one or two guitars and move on to something else. But, I've seen some wildly creative instruments on this site that have provided me with a constant source of inspiration. Now I'm 30 instruments in and still going strong.

I think it would be fun to post pictures of the builds the we're the most proud of.

Don't feel limited to guitars. I've seen some homemade jigs, tools, drum kicks, and lots of other things that're both artistic and marvels of backyard engineering.

So lets each post one pick that's the best of what we've designed and built.

I have spent a lot of hours altering and perfecting this build, Slowpawcaster 2, my second attempt at a useable six string, i've made a lot of songs out of it and with the right amp sounds amazing, though can sound a little shrill in some circumstances excels in the clean end of the spectrum, even acoustic. Very easy to play due to the low action, fitted with a Strat copy neck, Strat hardware and a Flatpup six pickup, used it live once and a number of songs on "Don't Give Up the Day Job" album.

Did you make the pick up?

The pickups are made by Elmar Zeilhofer of Klangbox guitars, Austria, he's a Nation member look him up ! :-)

New Slowpaw Punch 2 - started out as an attempt to build a 4 string Steampunk style guitar but stopped short of adding pipes and cogs! After much adjustment the guitar plays well on clean and excels on distortion channels and loves pedals, this build was a stepping stone to perfecting the "Country Girl" build, many of which i have sold successfully, open gear tuners and key bridge, Flatpup 4 pickup, amazing tone used on a number of recordings on "Don't Give Up the Day Job" album and played live a few times last year.

sorry i cheated and posted two..... :-)

There are no rules here.

This is #75 of my building adventure, and my favorite. It is a culmination of everything I have learned since starting my cbg building journey back in 2008. Obviously it is not a cigar box guitar. It is a solid body electric tenor guitar. It features a Sapele body, figured maple top, bolt on maple neck w/ truss rod and a neck tilt adjustment feature, a 22.875" scale Indian rosewood fretboard, MOP inlays, bone nut, though-body adjustable bridge, and handmade single coil pickups w/ zebra wood tops. The pickup routes and control cavity are shielded with copper tape.

NEck is finished with Tung oil. Body is finished with wipe on polyurethane.

Tuned DGBE with GHS Boomer strings using the .013, .017, .026, .032 strings.

The guitar weighs in at 5 lbs. and is well balanced, no neck drop.

Except for the metal parts (tuners, bridge, electronics, strings) and the MOP & nut...the rest is all hand made by me.

Beautiful guitar Scott, nice job.

Much thanks Mark.

yup

Wow!!!

You have some good looking lumber there.

You didn't get that at the Home Depot.

I've been thinking about doing an electric that hides the pick ups altogether.

How would you hide the pickups? What would that be like?

Mount them under the topboard. It would look like a plain top board . Like an acoustic guitar.
