Morning from the cloudy and overcast parts of central florida!

Ive been building guitars (1-2 a year) from plans for a few years, prior to that I had ZERO skill with tools of any kind.

I pickup- a drill my wife calls 911. so in theory making guitars and amps should be well out of my skill range but so far everything seems to be working ok.

HOWEVER, after building 3 CBG's and 1 Cookie Tin Banjo, I have discovered 3 hery important thinks

1) My "from scratch" necks are the most God awful necks ever seen on anything with stings

2) although I can make some pretty cool looking CBA's (solid state amps) my attempts at building the cabinet for larger amps , well in a word it INHALES SHARPLY! Yes they suck, HARD

Now from what I have seen tjhese should be pretty simple litt;e builds, but somehow I manage to mess them up very badly

if anyone has some simple plans for a head or even a small combo i would be eternally gratefukk

  • Maybe you could go on a hunt for a donor cabinet.  Lots of small amps are made this way using cigar boxes.  For a bigger cabinet, a wine box, old speaker, old wooden case for a power tool or projector or something.   Even an old piece of luggage or hard sided case could work.  Then "all" you have to do is put holes in it.   Hit the thrift stores or flea markets or even the free on craigslist section.
