Bought 2 piezo transducers from radio shack came pre-wired but the wires are really short to move around inside the canjo. Would you re- solder the entire pick up risking ruining the pickup or use solder extra wire to make them longer? If so would you solder at the the short wires joint or re- solder the entire pick up with new wire?

Would you solder a second joint if the piezo is already soldered fine. Put the piezo (already soldered decent) with hot glue in a bottle cap... then try to solder the second joint well for the extra wire length ? Thanks

If that's the case , just add some length to the Piezo wires, if you have some heat shrink, slide a short length onto the wire before you join it then when joined slide over the join and apply aheat to shrink the plastic , that will insulate the join, and protect it.

Clip the wires and solder new ones on the disk. Here's a video that shows you how simple it is:

A lighter works fine to shrink heat shrink.
Yes, the piezo will still work if you damage some of the ceramic. Actually you can cut it pretty small and still get most of the original output.

If you have the ability to re-wire the pick-up I would do that , then there is less chance of a short at the joins.
Just buy some pick-up wire , or if you have an old computer power supply, you will find ample wire in it .

Heat shrink is available from Radio Shack, .

from Downunder
The wires are of small diameter, and the tape will eventually come off, heat shrink, will not come off.
it is not expensive a couple of dollars for a length (3ft).
Jeff
heat shrink only needs the heat from the soldering iron or a match to shrink.
