I mounted a 35mm piezo disc on the neck cut-out under the box lid thinking it wouldn't be so sensitive and pick up every minute sound. Stuck it down with silicone and then covered it with the same. No volume pot, just disc to jack wiring. When you plug it into the amp and try to play it clean the sound is very low but when you kick in some effects it sounds pretty good and the volume is pretty good. The neck is firmly attached to the box so I thought it would pick up the vibes ok. Should I just move it to the box lid?

  • Thanks for your input guys. Got the pickup stuck to the lid and making happy sounds now.

  • the piezo should be placed under the bridge into a shallow slot cut out in the neck, the piezo should be lightly secured with tape and damped with something like velcro to allow the piezo to be held firmly whilst allowing it to vibrate.  i've found through many experiments glueing it down stops it vibrating and will reduce volume and bass, (-:

    • Thanks Steve, I was hoping that doing it the way I did would make it a bit less sensitive but I guess I over did it. Going back to the tried and true methods. I appreciate the help.

  • Attached to the neck right under the bridge should give good volume.
    • Thanks for the tip David.

  • box lid  ..  bass  side    by  the   bridge  is  usually  the sweet  spot .

    • Thanks Pick, I was trying something different, won't do that again.
