I had no idea where to put this, but here goes. Gitty and Shane have stated that an instrument is a blank canvas. I had this idea from an event held in September in Vancouver, WA, called Keys to the City. A piano tuning school there would have artists come in during the Summer, and paint older pianos. In September, they'd take them to different locations to be displayed, then auctioned off. As an idea, you could have artists come in and paint instruments, and have either a mini fest, part of a Fest, a concert, and silent auction. This would bring attention to handmade/homemade instruments, plus local artists.

  • Dustin,

Contact Downtown Vinnie to port this idea to the Northwest CBG Fest in Eugene, OR this year. The artists in and around Portland and Eugene should fall all over it.
  • for what you do you don't need a mention. You deserve a metal. Awesome dude.

    • You are too kind rat. the folks in St Louis deserve all thr credit.☺
      • (and they can type better than me too) lol.

         ;-)

  • I've actually seen something that done. Don't remember the year. An organization was raising funds to get instruments into the hands of students. So all these famous and local artists got "VSOs" Or 'Violin Shaped Objects' to paint on. These are those violins you can get off of Ebay for $10 to $15 bucks. Case and all. ( So what is a "solid wood" violin anyway? Or a violin "For entertainment only. Not for professional use". ). They auctioned off the artwork and raised quite a bit.

Now I don't mean to sound like there's a comparison between absolute crap sold on Ebay and real instruments. Just the idea of having artists paint them up and selling them off. They do something like this at the annual ST Louis Cigar Box Fest. An original Swamp Witch guitar is sold at a silent auction. The money raised goes to a charity.
