  • If'n it isn't too late, I would say you will be better off not cutting a relief in the neck under the lid.  If the neck is in full contact with the lid it will help compensate for the less than ideal bridge/saddle location.

  • You could move that tail inside the box, then either extend the fretboard or do something creative in the empty space?

  • Ron makes a good point regarding a preamp - it does sweeten the tone. My point was if you plan to amp up the sound the rod piezo works via direct pressure from the strings rather than the vibrations from the lid so should work OK where it is.

If the box is too small to add an onboard preamp you can always put it into another box and put it between the guitar and amp. At the moment off ebay you can get preamps with built in tuners for £8.79 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390566007202?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&amp...

All you need extra is a 1/4inch jack socket for the input and you cut the included piezo rod cable (use the piezo rod on another CBG so leave a bit of wire on it) and you wire the other half of the cable with the mini jack on to the 1/4 jack socket (silver outer braid to negative and inner wire to positive). The rest just clip together.

Great value but the delivery time can be upto 6 weeks from China/Hong Kong.

    • Thanks Guys

I've strung it up and with a temporary soft wood bridge and no sound hole it sounds about the same as my 3 string , the necks not glued to the lid but I've put shims between neck and lid and it sounds louder , i'm making a rod piezo bridge the same as my 3 string with the rod inside the bridge using string pressure , I can allways make another neck and fret board and keep the fret board for a bigger box .

  •  With a piezo rod bridge it will be the same as a Yamaha "silent" guitar (which has no soundboard at all) and work fine through an amp.

Without an amp you will still get some volume kind of like one of your telecasters unplugged - loud enough to play at night without waking up everyone else :o)

    • That Yammy DOES have a pre amp built into it, ya know (check the specs)...piezos are inherently high impedance, and therefore mismatched to most amplifiers. The pre amp boosts the voltage, allowing for correction of this mismatch. Yes, you can play a piezo direct into most amps, but you'll have to crank them up to get a decent tone. The pre solves that problem for you. There are also $40 stomp boxes that can do this.

Oops, this was supposed to go in another thread. But the principle is applicable here.
  • It'll matter. Some. Looks like you got a long tail. If that's a neck-thru, slide it forward a coupla inches, as well as the bridge. Or you can put in a mag pup, and not worry about it. I know, now your finger board will probably be a coupla inches shy of the box. Put your mag pup there. Get creative ;-).
