while I was setting the frets etc and taking the string off using the hand winding thing,

I snapped the top string 24 gauge obviously not paying attention to what I was doing.

so I put a 16 gauge string on so now it 42,32,16 what the best tuning for this this set up .

  • Hmm, tricky...

I think I'd maybe go for either:

DAa - this would give you a root, fifth and then another fifth an octave higher

EAa - giving you a low fifth, root and another root one octave up.  This one might also work as DGg.

The guitar would then be like a two stringer with an extra 'double' string for one of its notes.  Remember you can play exactly the same frets on either of the two doubled strings and it would sound fine, just higher or lower depending on the sound you wanted.

  • 6,5,4 strings were used but snapped the 4th so fitted the 3rd string.

  • Hi John,

I'm guessing you were using the 3, 4 and 5 strings from a regular 6-string pack and you've had to substitute in the 2 string?

If so I would give AEA a try.  Hope this helps.
