I recently bought some precision carbide bits on eBay and saw they could match my string diameters quite accurately. I still establish my slots first using my junior hack saw which has a 0.6mm kerf but I finess the slots to the right width and round the bottom using these. They do snap rather easily though.

The guide also shows my uke string recipes and which bit goes with each line.

I am also showing off this neat little usb rechargeable rotary tool. My local hardware store had them as a promotional item.(not in their website)

  • Hi, I use nut slotting files now but still use the dental burrs, much like you show here, that I got about 40 years ago in my dremal. Mostly on a flexible shaft. Good for inlay work too.
