It's poplar, but the fret board is purple heart from cbgitty.  The purple heart was a lot more purple than I anticipated so I stained it with an ebony stain getting it pretty close to black.

Looks nice - I have not attempted a fret board yet.
But I am still claiming bragging rights as "Clamp King" - I believe I used 3 more clamps in total and at least one more type and....and... and...all on the box alone!!!!! :-)
