Hi everyone, thank you for allowing me to join this group.  I have just bought my first CBG and am completely new to learning how to play it.  I am trying to see if anyone can help me with a tab version of 'Belfast Child' by Simple Minds.  I've got a 3 string CBG tuned to Open G and I would love to be able to play something like this because it very much reminds me of my dad.  I love the soulful Celtic music and also the blues/roots style .  I have heard that this song might be based on an old Celtic song 'She Moved through the Fair' so not sure if there is anything out there for CBG that might help??  Thanks for any help and looking forward to getting more familiar with all of this :-)

  • Ruth, if you’re new, I would learn some basic techniques for awhile, or at least until you’re able to play with ease? Then , circle back after awhile, it may come to you? check out the Resources tab as well as the cbg tabs group here, there’s a few simple ones for beginners as well as videos. Good luck to ya, hang in there, it gets easier.

    • thanks Brian, yep i'm completely new to this, its all a bit tricky when starting out how to go about it but i do really like the tab music now that i have a better understanding of what that means so i guess manybe just keep practicing, practicing, practicing the sheets??

  • ""Fair warning""! DO NOT under 'any' circumstances get these guys started on music theory!! Take it from someone who has been there!! Your head will explode from all the information you'll try to absorb. Seriously though, anything you need to know just ask, somebody with experience will answer and help in anyway possible. There are more then a couple of us let's say musically challenged people here that have tapped into the vast amount of knowledge offered here.

    • LOL thanks Will, yep i'm just trying to work out a good way to teach myself - wasnt sure whether to start with learning how to play chords, or just follow some of the tablature in the songs.  I'm probably WAY over thinking this...just wasnt sure if there is a 'better' approach than others to help learn??

looks like simple enough chords..  D,C,G  for G7sus4 and Cadd9 just try different fingerings of a G and C chord.. there are also chord charts here on CBN that might help. only 3 strings does hamper some chords....

    • thanks for that Timothy, I am completely new to guitar playing so I've got a big learning curve ahead.  I dont know what some of those chords are but I'll hopefully soon learn.  I think I need to learn some music theory to help me along with this but its good having the tablature for the songs as that makes it a lot easier to learn.  Good to see a fellow Aussie here too :-)
