Well, a two string Standup bass really, using an old shovel and old bedhead leg of silky oak for the neck.

Irish banjo is the old slang term for a shovel, in fact the first customer to walk in called it an Irish banjo before I pointed out it was a bass.

I started with a piezo pickup on the bridge but it sounded a bit ordinary, I fitted a bass pickup instead, and sounds great now. Most of the time spent on this was thinking of ways to fit and hide the electrics. It has a volume control and jack only, and of course the pickup. The stand I already had and just adapted it, and added a coat of paint. the shovel is sprayed with clear lacquer as is the neck.

The neck is made from parts of an old bedhead and is Silky Oak. I already had the bass tuners and they are Gotoh. The bridge is an old bass bridge cut down.

Cheers Taff

  • Really nice job you did on that. I dig it!

    • Hi, Thanks for that. Looks like there could be an offspring on the way. Ill probably cut this neck down for a three stringer.
