For someone that really didn't know what they were doing you did fantastic. Looks great. Can't wait to hear it!!!
What is the pickup? I have one from JJB- Electronics
great build wecome to the addition. One down 100000000000000000000 to go
PS love your idea for neck hold down post great thought
Very Very nice for a first build. From a dynamic point of view, it might be better to secure the neck to the sides of the box, to leave the back free to vibrate too. Possibly sound ports might help to develop the tone. Enjoy.

Please check out my istructional video (CD 4) for 3 string CBG:

I used the JJB electronics pickups. I was really unsure how to mount the neck to the box. I couldnt find any good pictures. maybe I didnt look hard enough. Im also unsure about sound ports - where, how big, how many - thats why I didnt add any. Thanks for all the input.
Looks good, Interesting mounts, cool to see what happens when you think up something on your own.
Hi David,
This is in response to your question about sound ports. "Sound ports" are usually on the side of an instrument. They let the person playing the instrument hear the sound directly rather than having it be reflected back at them. "Sound holes" are generally on the front of the instrument. I asked myself the other day, before I started cutting a hole in one of my cigar boxes, just how big should a sound hole on the front be? I found a lot of information about regular guitars and the thing we need to remember there is that they contain a lot more cubic inches of air than a cigar box. There was another really great post on this site that said one of the things we can do is learn from the luthiers who make regular instruments and even if we don't do it exactly like they do put the principles into effect with our cigar box guitars. So in keeping with that I kind of took some information about guitar sound holes and scaled them down. What I got was a hole that's about 45 cm in diameter, that the good part about that is that's about the size of a regular breakfast egg. And the reason that is interesting is because I asked a very high-quality guitar maker who puts sound ports in the sides of his guitars what size to start with and he told me I should make it about the size of an egg. Here are two websites with more information about "sound ports" the kind of on the side of your guitar . http://www.alcarruthluthier.com/guitars/corker.htm, good info there. And this is the website of the very high quality luthier who is a big advocate of sound ports, McKnight Guitars
Very nice build, great job and great ideas.
WOW! 1st build, you dont play yet,,,,,,,,Its better then anything I have ever built and I've been banging on guitars since I was 13 yrs old , and that was a long, LONG time ago.
How in the world are you going to top even yourself, on your next build, and the next 1 and the one after that?! lol
Looks good.Your FIRST build? No way, dude. Looks TOO good. Piezo w. volumn controle? VERY impressed.

I'm just starting out playing guitar myself. Self defense, really... people keep seeing my with my CBG and saying "looks nice, play something."

As a new player, I'd be LOST without my fret markers. If you have a drill press, you can put those in easily anytime before the fret wire is added. (You could probably still do this, but you'd have to sand them down AGAINST the neck's grain and that's a pain).

How's the action? If you make a nut and saddle out bone or corian, you can adjust this to your heart's content. Corian is something you can pick up from any custom kitchen counter manufacturer.
I just noticed in the picture at the top, while this is your first you definately have the bug. I see at least 3 more necks and a few box's already started in the background, way to go.
