My First Build!

Well everyone, here is my first serious build. I used an old blacking box, probably over 100 years old. Maple neck, walnut fret board. An old key for bridge. I was going for an old look, like something you would find in an attic. All hardware is old and the tuners are from an old classic guitar.

I was suprised at how good it sounds and it has tons of sustain. There are double piezos installed under the bridge location with the jack hidden in back.

The only thing I messed up on as you can see are the sound holes. I cut them to match the graphic but realized later they weren't centered. Od well I've convinced myself it adds to it's charm! Ha, ha!

    Hope you all like it!

Scott

  • Thanks again Guys! You really know how to boost ones ego. I like your idea Kid, "the bass response, yeah yeah, that's it. That's why they're like that." Or, I could tell everyone it was made in 1923 by a famous one eye'd blues legend named

    "Cocked Eyed Willie" HaHa!

    • Sooooo...you didn't find it in Grandma Jean's attic...

Honestly, Scott, until you pointed it out, I didn't see anything wrong with the way you'd done the f-holes; they followed the countour of the labeling perfectly.

Next build, tell everyone you're gonna be fixing the "problem" by cutting a-holes.

      • HAHAHAHA! Oh I like that Oily!!

  • Real nice effort. I disagree with the boys. Point em out for sure. Problem is your vocabulary. Mistake = "feature" ok??
The sound holes are specially tuned for better bass response etc
    Great effort
  • Looks great, I actually like the soundhole plcement.
  • Mistake on Soundholes? you know you are your worst critic. I agree with Country Boy, don't mention your flaws, folks likley won't notice. Your build is well done and I love the theme. Super job!

  • Very cool box and I really like the simple sound holes, well done.

    • Oh I just re read your post, I now see the 'mistake' so now i don't like the sound holes. ha just kidding, the first rule in designing is not to tell anyone your mistakes, your the only one who really see's it. I thoung they were cool following the graphic.

  • Very nice build. I sympathize on the sound holes; did the same thing once.
  • Thanks for the kind words. I got the box off of etsy. It was a little pricey but I felt it was worth it. The top was a bit thick and I was afraid it wasn't going to sound good unplugged but it sounds great. And plugged in it is even better!
