I noticed recently that Mr. Wayfinder has been absent from these pages. It appears that the account, plus all posts have gone. Seems a bit of a shame as the fellow was always happy to help out, and could clearly call upon his own knowledge (and Google) pretty well. Some interesting and fun builds came from that guy.

Anyway, best of luck to you, if you're reading this.

  • OK guys, that's enough. Wayfinder left, that sucks, but this is the internet. People don't get along sometimes, and sometimes things flare up. I have reviewed what remains of the discussion, and I don't like what I see on either side. I'll do my best to work on that, with a goal of preventing it from repeating, but I won't have an ongoing passive aggresive bitchfest here though trying to pick a fight through roundabout insinuations and BS. Everyone has said their piece, now let it go.

  • I know this thread is about Wayfinder. No me. So I'll only chime in once about personal experiences. Then say nothing more about it. I've been unnecessarily corrected before. Yes i don't know how to read music. So the correction was right. However unnecessary. It took away, not added, anything useful to the thread.

Wayfinder had a lot of unnecessary stuff following him around here. Knowing the guy, perhaps he deleted all his material so no one could go back and research. Perhaps he was just trying to keep the peace.

  • I rarely give put downs.

if you can't say anything decent or encouraging then  its best to keep ya mouf shut!

I always try to say some encouraging even if I'm not keen on the looks or sound.

hell we've all got start somewhere.

some folks have to have their say regardless how hurtful it may be.

the old english saying...they're like a dog dick they have to be in it.

the internet are full of key board warriors..

  • Many of you may have noticed the absence of Wayfinder in recent weeks. It appears that he has deleted all of his many postings and has withdrawn from CBN participation.

I recently hooked up with Wayfinder over at Handmade Music Clubhouse. He is still very much into building and testing cigar box designs, but for reasons of his own, decided to leave CBN.

He did ask that I pass along his apology for omitting many of his interesting test findings. Unfortunately, he did not retain personal copies of these postings, so is unable to pass them along for those that found them interesting and useful.

It is unfortunate that Wayfinder found it necessary to leave the site as he was (for me at least) one of the most interesting posters on the building forum. I understand that on an unmonitored board, there is always the chance that conflicts, disagreements and misunderstandings can arise between posters of radically diverse backgrounds and cultures. As a result, good people, from time to time, take their experience and wisdom and leave. When they do, we all lose.

So, for me the lesson is simple-->As Ellen says "Be kind to one another."

    • Ah - makes sense! Well, he'll certainly add his charm over there too ;-) I'm well overdue a visit myself!
    • Thanks for that info Tom T.  Good advice from Ellen.

  • I was wondering what happened.  Nice guy, even built me one of his prototype pickups after I sent him a spool of wire I'd never use...

    Sigh...

    Damn, now where's his address.....

  • i always found him an interesting guy to deal with - hope he finds his way back :-)

  • I don't do Facebook, Twitter or other types of social media. I feel they are a waste of time This site is a fountain of ideas and opinion. After several years of reading on this site. I learned as I went and respected Wayfinders' comments and insight. One of the ways to learn is reading old post. No matter how crazy or simplistic you feel the question you are asking, chances are really good someone has asked it before. His comments were gold to me.  I just about feel like my dog died. Will miss you Wayfinder and hope you are OK.

  • I've been a long time lurker (couple years now) so maybe I'll finally throw in my 2 cents. I usually check out the forums every day or two because you never know what cool tip, trick, review or experiment someone has to offer. There are a few names I've come to recognize and make a point of reading their posts and Wayfinder is one that I'd always go to. The other thimg that keeps me coming back here is, for the most part, everyone is treated with respect. There are never any stupid questions or ideas. There might be a difference of opinion, but that's why we're probably here. this place is a haven from the elitists that exist on other luthier forums (and I do consider cbg builders as luthiers).

To bring this reply back on point, if Wayfinder is still reading these posts, there are probably a bunch of us lurkers that are going to miss your enthusiasm for the craft.
