Being a uke maker in general I was thinking of going down the mandolele route.

A standard uke tuning is in 4ths gCEA, with the small g indicating a high g, or reentrant tuning. You see the odd uke with GCEA, or low G tuning.

Standard mando is in fifths GDAE. To give a more uke feel, does gDAE reentrant tuning sound like fun?

  • 306384896?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024I use Aquila Soprano Fifths #30U strings on my Concert CBUke (15" SL).  Aquila also has Concert size #31U.  I use Uncle John's 2 finger chords and it sounds great.  I have made 2 with tapered necks like a real Mandolin, but my fingers don't work too well with the smaller width nut (1 3/16"), so that is why I went with the regular 1 1/2" width CBUke neck.

  • If it sounds like fun, gofer it.;-)
