I buy 1x3 pine for the side...and 1/8 birch plywood for the back and top....This guitar was made with these woods.

Hey Reeds did You paint that with enamel ? or was it laquer ? sounds alot louder and cleaner than what i thought ply wood would sound like .

Also, if you can't find 1/8" ply at your HD or Lowes (at some locations, the thinnest ply they carry 1/4" lauan) check the sheet paneling aisle. the wood stuff is often a bit thinner than 1/4" and can make for a decent top if you don't mind sanding the backside of it smooth.

I dont mind sanding at all so ill be sure to check that aisle . im in the putting the parts list together stage at the moment . This one wont be done till probly march and i cant post any progress pics cuz its for a buddy and as soon as he saw it he would know it was for him lol .

Here`s a place I use a lot,  nice selection and they carry wide sizes and different thicknesses on most woods. Decent lengths of 24". Shipping a bit salty but the grade of wood makes up for that.     http://www.ocoochhardwoods.com/scroll_saw_lumber.php#top

!!!!Thank You Randy !!!!!!

as far as specialty woods go.. if you have a local hobby shop, you should try there, sometimes they sell thin panels of wood for model airplanes. mahogany, cherry, maple, walnut....

nothing like that out here . the only actual town is about an hour from me . HD makes so much money off of farmers etc. out here its not even funny . They shut down an amazing hardware store/lumber yard out here because he couldnt compete with their prices . just like wal-mart and small grocery stores . Had some birds eye maple on the way when he closed his doors .

I make my own boxes out of 3/16" lauan plywood, reinforced with 3/4" pine corners, and 3/4" pine battens along the sides at the joints between top, sides and bottom. The pine gives me something to glue-and-screw to, which stiffens the box, and which results in improved tone and resonance. I build my boxes relatively big: 12-3/4 to 13" long by 10-1/2" wide by 3 to 3-1/2" deep.

13''x10''x4'' was the exact mesurment i wrote down . lol crazy .

If you can find an old hollow core interior door, they are made of 3/16 veneer. One door can make 10 instruments maybe more. Doors can be birch, lauan, cherry or whatever. I just found two against a tree marked free, people don't know what to do with them, but hate to throw them away.

!!!!!!!! I didnt even think of door skins . hell a closet door shouldnt be much .
