I'm still so new to this that things the masters have forgotten or don't even think about any more still amaze me

I built a dulcitar on a box that was too thin to have any kind of appreciable sound at all, according to the guitar gurus I know
Overall it was a very simple nothing special makeshift reso CBG,
Except for the sound
That part was a work of art
Everyone that played it was amazed . It had a haunting sound like I have never heard in any instrument before. Nothing you could do could make this thing sound bad
Merely strumming it brought a tear to your left eye

I have crawled through a burning mobile home to save a puppy that I didn't even know, made it through basic training with a broken right big toe and sprained left ankle, dragged my 10 inch thick frame throug an 11 inch 140 degree attic to save a small kitten, but I have never been more proud of any accomplishment in my life

Anyway I sold it
When I was prepping it to ship I changed out the strings and tuned it up
It was the most vile sounding piece of crap I have ever heard in my life
Nothing you could do could make this thing sound good, it broke my heart

Then I remembered something
When I built it I was used 2, 3, and 4th strings of a cheap set of acoustic strings
When I prepping it I used electric strings, because I got a good deal in bulk, and used the 1,2, and 3rd strings

After restringing it with a cheap set of Wal-Mart's First Act acoustic strings I had my sound back

It amazes me that that small change could be the difference between a truly amazing sounding instrument and one that I would have immediately disassembled against a wall if that were the way it sounded at first

Oh and after I finish with this pack , I will used nothing but acoustic strings from now on

Good story for anyone just starting these things. I have noticed a big difference when I try different size strings also. So if it does not sound good at first try other strings! Also be proud of saving the puppy and kitten.
