Well, it took a while and I may do some tweaking yet but it's in and working.
I never did get the LED to work but I have another one mounted in the neck, added a switch, and used a 2" speaker out of the chimes part of a clock. I ended up using a small piezo pick up mounted under the bridge encased in hot glue. I have a new respect for piezos now.
I also added a DC adapter to save batteries. I will probably change the switch to an "ON - OFF - ON" to accommodate this better.
Over all and even tho this had me tearing out hair, I am pretty pleased with the sound and I'm sure the next one will go much smoother - my wife even said "Hey, that sounds like a real guitar" - women, waddaya gonna do!!!
Anyhow, Thanx for all the help guys!!!

Glad you got it working. I found the little Gem ok, but not so good with a piezo as the ruby amp
I think this is because of the extra input stage provided by the transistor

Well, I went into Sayal and spent about $50 - should be enough for a few little amps.....
Man, this must be the epitomy of "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"
Awesome I did £25 on ebay a got a load of old radios, I managed to "hot wire" one that still worked
The rest would make exalent cabs for small amps like the little gem or ruby
This is the radio amp hear
