Hi, I don’t know if this is a first, I would think not, but it is my BBEBB guitar.
It’s a Bread Board Electric Bass Box guitar.
I used a new bread cutting board, one of my standard guitar boxes [made from discarded fence palings], an old jap bass neck [Fender Copy] bridge or 50% of it from the same guitar, as was 50% of the pickup. And I suppose 50% 0f a set of strings and tuning machines.
I used new chicken head knobs, volume and tone pots etc. and the numbered rings are from an old toaster.
You would have noticed that it is fretless with wood infills in their place.
The only thing I did not enjoy about the build was that with such a long scale I kept hitting the fluorescent light over my bench.

Cheers Taff

  • I like it. looks like fun Taffy.

  • Hi Tim, re reinforcing neck. It would depend on a number of things, for example: grain orientation of the neck timber and fingerboard (is it quarter sawn?) I go through the rack and only buy the stuff sawn on the quarter. How long the scale, this bass is 34" and how deep the neck is.

With this neck I left the sides square so as not to remove too much wood.

lf I was building a neck I would consider a reinforcing bar, if all of the above was not in place.

I don't know it this helps you?

    Taff

    • so, might not need it but it couldn't hurt...safest to put some in i think.

  • Looks fantastic Taff, nice work!

  • Very nice!

  • very nice!! now i want to make one...  almost got enough room in the shed to get in it..lol

fret wire turned up in the mail, got some Tassie oak for a neck and a separate 8mm fingerboard..  would i need to reinforce the neck for a 2 string bass??

    • Nice build Taff.  Like the details on this one.  My bass was a stand up, it hit all kinds of things!

Tim, for a two stringer, you can rotate the 1x2 and make it narrower and deeper, carve it round to 1 1/4" or so.   As it is narrow it still fits the hand ok.  This also lets you cut the relief for the tuners easily.
