Some things I found today while "researching"  pup winding and pup theory (read as:killing a dreary Sunday afternoon).
There are more sites to share, but I hope to see what others know, think they know,  and where they go to learn more.

Let's start with one of my favorite sites. The projects here range from brilliant to buffoonery. This one ranks closer to Richard Feynman than Larry Fine.

The 'Designed2Wind' Web Page
- a resource site for pickup winding enthusiasts

The host for the actual site says this no longer exists, so here is a link to Google's cached version.
The electric guitar pickups bible
(more than a bit of overstatement, but interesting nevertheless) Times, serif"">:

Apologies for the crazy font changes. "Copy and paste" seems to retain the original format, while a desire for accuracy and general laziness dictate that I not actually type all of it myself.
And apologies for the huge link on item 4 as well. There is more coding in Google's links to cached items than in the items themselves. Lol

Jeff,

Thanks for posting this information.

Cheers

Bob, along with trying to learn as much as possible about the principles involved in making pups, I was looking for ideas for a winder. What kept going through my head was "No matter what I come up with, it won't be as cool as the steampunk time machine winder" Thank goodness this is a hobby and not a contest. Lol
Jeff,
Thanks for liking my winder. That means a lot to me. In real life I have been a machine builder, designer-machinist.
If you have made one pickup you have made more than I have. I am unemployed so my money has been very tight but I have a lot of time and good machines in my garage. I have only spent about $125.00 on her. Next month I can get the magnets and start winding. I purchased 350,000 feet of 42 gauge wire from ebay for $90.

Jeff, I still think the best winder could be made from a Harbor Freight foredom type grinder for $49.00. All you need to figure out is the counter. What I like about the HB grinder as a winder is that it is varibable speed with a foot feed, and what the heck you can still use it as a grinder. If I had the extra cash I would build one and post the photos.

Once again thanks for posting the information, I need it.

Cheers
Bob
