That some us us builders names seem to pop up in different parts of the country, which I think is a good thing.
However it seems to me that we could do a better job ( make it easier to promote etc) our passion if the public could reach us easier.
I give a link to this site to EVERY customer, and suggest that along with me, they can receive excellent help with questions and suggestions they may have here.
But I'm wondering if we could go a bit further even.
Maybe after the holidays are past , somebody that has more knowledge then I, could set up some sort of list of builders , including their specialties, where a newby can simply go to this list and pull up the closest builder to them, for repairs, general help ,suggestions and even ENCOURAGEMENT.
I have NO problem giving out somebodies name as a builder or "repairman/woman if I know who they are.
Anything we can do to get the word out is a plus in my opinion.
Because I build basically a decent starter acoustic only CBG or DB I would gladly give info to customers about where to buy a more upscale instrument IF I KNEW WHO THEY ARE! Maybe this list could be set up so they could type in their area and a list of builders there would pop up , this type of thing.
So far I know only a couple of builders that I've met personally, but from this site several that I would recommend to anyone. But I think we could do better and reach and help more folks if somebody that has the tech knowledge could attack this area.
I know I'm not the only builder in my area but dont know how to reach those that are.I dont mind losing a sale to another builder at all if they can get the product for a customer thats a better match to what that customer wants/needs then I can.In the long run a more satisfied customer is more preferable to a customer that bought what he could find rather then what was best suited to him/her.

Remind me of this absolutely perfect idea next week, Rog. I'll do my best to create it.
Awesome Idea Roger. U could do it by zip code. Or there are somew cool map locater programs.
mandolincafe.com has a list of builders which is world wide: http://www.mandolincafe.com/builders.html

I have spent many hours going through the list and visiting mandolin luthiers' websites. Ruined a few keyboards with all the drool.
I am absolutely in favor of this idea. One day, not right this moment, but one day... I would hope to see my name on such a list. It stands to reason that someone wanting a CBG or repairs. advice, encouragement etc. would want to connect with someone in their region or area. Shane is right... this idea is absolutely perfect. Thanks Roger. It will be interesting to see who is in the Phoenix area.
I am 100 percent for this idea also. Shane could put out a message to everyone interested with a small application where each person could list their profiles such as abilities each could offer and if someone wasnt sure how to answer a particular question, he could refer to someone who specializes in it. ect...
