After being laid off for almost 15 months, I found a job and am moving to the Washington DC area. I leave tomorrow to drive up and will start my new job on Monday.

I will be providing computer system support for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

I may not be very active here until I get settled in and find a new place so the wife can join me soon.

  • awesome bro hope everything works out perfect for you
  • I'm jealous I was stationed at Fort Meade for awhile and loved the Baltimore DC area. Expensive though, really expensive. Enjoy the new neighborhood.
  • Update** I am in Alexandria, staying with friends. The house search has been painful, the rental market is VERY fast moving, stuff gets rented in 72 hours in some cases. I think I have a place lined up near Springfield, I should know in the next few days.

I made sure I got a place with a basement so I can get to work on some more CBGs.
  • Great news!!!! Congrats, and have a safe trip!!!!!!!!
  • Hey Iggy,
Welcome to the area! I'm in Rockville, MD (that's either 20 minutes or 6 hours away depending on the traffic patterns). I definitely think there needs to be some sort of Nation's Capital gathering once you get settled in. I'm glad you found out what everyone else in the country has (especially Michigan...I keep meeting people coming here from Michigan): when all you focus on is Federal jobs, DC's economy does pretty well (I'm a public school teacher so I can't really talk, I work for the public anyway).
  • You can always try Busking in front of the WHAT House, until they bust you LOL.Would be cool if Obama heard and came out and started dancing to your playing,,,,,,,,naw, the republicans would LOVE THAT! LOL
  • Great news..I grew up outside DC my old man was a cop there for 25 years.
I lived in Laurel Maryland 20 minutes outside.Good luck in your new venture.

  • Thanks Jon. We are only looking to rent a place for right now, probably a townhome (with a garage for building CBGs, lol) so I don't know that a real estate agent would be interested in helping out, since they would not receive any compensation.

I have some friends that I am staying with for a few weeks while I look for a place, so hopefully they will point me in a direction that will help keep me from getting mugged in a bad neighborhood!! :-)

    Thanks

Congrats, and welcome to NOVA (Northern Virginia)!

There are getting to be several CBG'ers in this vicinity - perhaps we ought to get together on a lazy weekend and exchange some CBG musical and design inspiration. Maybe even start up one of those group things on the nation website.

(Also, I can recommend a friend as a real-estate agent if you need someone local to help you size up neighborhoods.)
  • Thats great news-really made my day.
  • Nice sorry i will not get to meet you as soon as 2 weeks but hey theres a whole life! Good Luck in your new Digs man!
