humbucker height

I build fretless, hollow body, 3 stringers and am now venturing into my first electric build. I've got a Gitty humbucker I'll be using with a hardtail bridge. I've already cut the hole near the neck and would love to see a discussion on the ins and outs of height adjustments but have not had luck finding one.

Does anyone know of such a discussion?

  • Hi, don’t know what happened here, I thought I had lost one of these posts.

  • Hi, the height will also have an effect on tone and volume, so I would suggest experimenting. Also a pickup that’s too close to the strings can effect sustain due to the magnetic pull from the pick up dampening string vibrations.

It’s a good idea to set up the desired setting with the strings fretted at the last fret, then measure.

  • A little how & why on the subject: https://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/latest-updates/adjusting-pickup-...

  • Hi, pickup heights vary from player to player and guitar to guitar as different settings give different tones and volumes. But to give you a starting point try 3/32" to 1/8". Some go more some go less.

Measure this with the strings fretted at the last fret.
