My 8 year old got us into the uku scene about 6 months ago, we now have 6... And the cigar box is the perfect hobbie to start as we just want to buy more and more, so this may slow us down a little.

Welcome to cbg insanity. I started building with my grandsons. That was @ 27 guitars ago. But what sweet insanity it is! Be forewarned....once you start building it gets real hard to stop. Each build is better, the ideas flow, and the magic happens. A great way to teach youngsters to use tools, plan projects, and work together. And you end up with cool cigar box guitars...and license plate resonators, lap steels, uke's,dog bowl reso's, and more. Let's go!

For a man of 27 builds, may I pick your brains for some starting advice??
I'm going for no sound hole so what system is best?
My idea is a humbucker, so what type of saddle, nut and tail piece is best?.
Also with a humbucker do I fit steel or nylon strings.

'Buckers need steel strings. You will also therefore need an amplifier to play the guitar through.
You will need to decide your scale length, to determine which strings to use. Fretted, or unfretted slider? Neck attachment types: neck-through, neck attached to top (Uncle Crow or dulcimer style), neck-to (neck stays inside the box, or bolt-on? Box size? Neck wood type? Scarf jointed headstock, or straight through like a Fender?
Just a few things to think of. You can spend many hours looking through pics and build blogs on this site, which is highly recommended before building.
I started playing the ukulele 7 months ago. I now own 5 ukes. I felt the same way, that maybe the CGB's will curb the uke collecting. Now, what to do about the CGB collecting...
