  • Hi Kimberly, I'm not sure what you are referring to regarding "notching" the peghead. My next two or three steps after gluing up the splice is to thin the peghead to suit the tuner post height, putting a veneer on the front, and drilling the holes for the tuners.

    • I thought a couple of pics of me thicknessing a peghead may give you an idea. One is thicknessed from the back, the other is not spliced and thicknessed from the front.

      There are three or four ways I've used a drum sander or belt sander to do this.

      Two are shown here. Another is to mount the drum into a hand drill and mount that on a table, the other it to use the end of a 3" - 4" hand held belt sander suitably modified.
