HEAD ANGLE

Is ther a certain angle the head should be to the neck? I'm doing 15' and it looks about right to me, but me doesn't know a whole lot about these things. I'm working on a ukulele.

  • If you use a straight edge and go from the nut to the hole in the tuner peg where the string will be as long as that point is lower than the nut your fine.
Any extra angle is fine too but if the hole is higher to or equal to the nut expect buzzzzzz.
  • I don't believe there's any set figure. As long as there's enough angle (or offset) to put tension on the strings as they break across the nut, you're good.
Look at your typical Stratocaster; the offset is so slight that string trees are used to provide tension.

I just built a uke and made the headstock dead flat; but I used a slotted tuner arrangement that provided the necessary tension. (check my pics)
