Hey all.  I was wondering if anyone has used the products from CBGitty.  I am in Japan, and I saw the posting on the tuning pegs for CHEAP.  I would like to buy them if they are good, but I don`t want to sink a bunch of money into them if they SUCK.  I was planning on buying 10 packs of the pegs.  Tuning pegs here in Japan are out the roof as far as price.  It would lower my cost on making these CBGs if I could find a great shop with good prices and that can send products to Japan.  I am already paying over 10 dollars per CIGAR BOX (price plus shipping) ordering from America.  Can any of you out there give some insite on the products esp. the piezos, jacks, and the tuning pegs?  OR if you have other sites for ordering products, please let me know.

Much thanks.

Funny thing is that the cheapest way for you is probably to buy Gitty's tuners which are shipped from China to the US, then back to you in the East lol. He just posted them last night, so no regular customers have received any yet but his reputation is very good.

Where are you buying your boxes?
I am buying my boxes from CIgar Box Central on E-bay (also this site). The guy is a champ, and he has helped me out by lowering the cost on some of the boxes. I would rec. him very much if you are looking for someone reliable. I wonder where Gitty is buying his tuning pegs from. It would be sweet if I could find the source since I am right next to CHina.

Gitty is a great source, and Ben is a mensch to boot.
Search alibaba.com for "tuning key" and you'll find several companies in china that make them. There's usually a minimum order, but it might be as low as 20 individual tuning machines.
I've used jacks and frets from CB Gitty - fast shipping, great prices, and great products. Highly recommended.
Where are you?
If you're in a big enough city or you can get to one on a weekend, you could always go to hard-off and get some junk guitars and strip them. ten bucks for a box is good. you won't find anything cheaper in Japan, trust me. Unless you know someone with a tobacco shop.

on a side note what wood are you using and where are you getting it?
If you're getting good wood then you are simply not looking hard enough for guitar parts.
I am in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture on Shikoku. I have been hear for 5 years. Got married back in 2007. Have a son that is almost 2. Right now I am teaching English and trying to find something else to do. I hope to open a cafe in the future with a Blues theme and perhaps sell CBGs. I am really digging building these guitars.

How about you? Living where? Family? Job? What else do you do?

I didn't think of Hard Off. Damn, thanks. I will get out that way ASAP.

I tried the tobacco shops, but didn't have any REAL luck. WHat I did find had a huge Japanese label stuck to the front that ruined the looks of the box.

I get my boxes from Cigar Box Central. The guy has helped out a bit on costs per box. Great guy.

I get my wood for necks and fret boards from Maruni or the like. Mostly hard cedar. I have had pretty good luck with the wood I have found. There hasn't been any major bending due to the strings.

If you are looking at doing this on a major scale, look at Alibaba.com. You can get piezos, jacks, corner pieces, necks, ANYTHING for a CBG minus the boxes of course.

we have a lot in common. try pine or tamo, if you can find some. and if you do start that cafe, I'd love to check it out. oh and yahoo auction, if you need local boxes (but they are pricey) search 葉巻 箱.
tbh cbgitty seems like the place to go for tuners, jacks, piezos, fret wire and such though.

how many have you built, post some pics.

Gitty == Good stuff!

- even if Ben were not such a great, reliable and honest guy, if the prices are good it makes good sense to support the ppl who advertise here bcoz they are funding the site, and we all want them to continue to do so...

Ive only got fretwire off him but i can tell u he doesnt bone u on international shipping like a lot do, in fact he goes to extra effort to keep the shipping costs low..

Also, hes a builder of very nice instruments himself and will not supply u with something he would not use himself..
Are there better tuners than these budget ones? of course... (a set of gotoh's will run u $50, Schallers maybe $80 etc etc)
are they up to the job? Well ive not had any off him, but i know exactly the ones hes got, i fit a set to a banjo today..

Support Gitty guys, hes one of the advertisers keeps this place running!!
i have shopped from gitty, great products, fast shipping, great service and gitty knows his stuff and is always willing to help. HIGHLY reccomended by me
Another vote for Gitty, the tuners look alot like the economy open geard tuners from Stew Mac that I like to use, but at 1/2 the price. The only slight down side is the plastic furrel his come with, no bigggy, just get the metal ones he is selling. His bulk fret wire is a great deal and is all I've been using. I get my boxes from Lori who also has an ad here. She is super to deal with. I go to All Electronics for things like piezos, jacks, tuner and volume pots. They have the best selection of electronic parts this side of Japan or China.
