Wow nice !!
Do you ever come to Melbourne?
I've done a few red gum necks, works nicely if you laminate a few pieces up

try and avoid Melbourne,,used to live there, the pieces I can get you don't have to laminate,,solid pieces of kiln dried wood,i find 3/4  3" is good if you use a scarf joint for the headstock.but I can get almost any size, just depends if I have to pay for it,,regards dan

G'day Daniel,

Will you have any issues with shipping? If not keep us informed on how you go. I just did another quick Google search and there's bugger all available up my way (Sydney) except of course if you have no issues with buying a 3m x 2m dressed slab so I'm pretty much limited to using Tassie Oak (not that that's a bad thing of course) from Bunnings at $17 for a 40 x 18 x 2.4 length which I get two necks out of.

im happy to post to you what I can get,but Australia post is limited to 1 metre long, enough for a neck, also I can only get offcuts unless I wish to place a special order ( think dollars )I personally use a piece 3/4 x 3 " and scarf cut the neck on my tablesaw  ( made a jig for the angle cut) then I glue it up and then rout the slot for the truss rod. let me know if your happy with a 1 metre piece and ill see what I can get,if I get it for free then you only pay postage regards dan

Cheers Daniel, be appreciated - just don't go out of your way on my account. Pity you don't have a pack n send down your way, the nearest is Shepparton and that's way out there for you.
I think you need to show me your scarf cut jig, I've been using my table saw for a while but the damn thing scares the shnitz outta me, dunno why I could do just as much damage with the drop saw ;-)

its not a problem, ill probably call in at the mill on Friday and see what I can pick up.

if you like ill do the scarf cut for you before I send the wood,at the moment I have the jig set at 12 degrees and I find that suitable,if you need a greater angle you can adjust it using an angled block to mount the neck to body (that's the usual Gibson method)

ill take some pictures of the jig and do a couple of diagrams if you like,i will eventually re design the jig to vary the angle hopefully your table saw can cut deep enough to do it in one slice.could you give me your address or just postcode so I can get the post office to calculate, dont want to take a guess and rip you off, regards  dan  by the way,,you can call me ferret if you like,,everyone else does,,,

Hi Dan,

Postcode is 2770, and appreciate you knockin up the diags etc.
I knew a Ferret once, haven't spoken to him since I gave the bikes up, I used USED to be called shaggy simply because my hair was that long I could sit on it - long gone now though, began to drive me nuts, even standing in the wind I looked like a demented Afghan Hound :-)

Cheers
