Bought the Harbor Freight pull saw last week for fretting and it looks like the kerf is wider than the ones people have been using. The kerf is .032 now at least the tooth set is . The slot is too wide for the CB Gitty frets. Luckily I only did one before I noticed. Used my old Irwin it was pretty beat up but it still cut better than the HF one.

  • this what I did to my shark saw but took it off and put it on my Zona saw.

the shark cut was a little to wide for frets but the Zona was spot on.

  • just to recap on the shark saw.

I put a flat bar onto the blade to stiffen it up.

cut some slots today and a midge dick to big. so had to glue them in.

just bought a Zona Razor Saw Set 3.so we'll see how things go with that.

  • Gary, the .028 kerf was always going to be a touch oversize,i'm trying to figure whu Ben recommended it,although 5 thou is not a huge amount, doubt your frets will lock in securely. And,just a tip, keep your saw square to the board surface, any wobble will widen the kerf slightly

    • I recommended the Shark saw after ordering it, cutting some slots with it in and testing those slots with several of our fret wires (medium/medium, medium/higher, narrow/lower) and it seemed to be a nice snug fit. I do not know what is going on with them but until i can get it sorted out I have removed the recommendation and listing from my store.

    • Darrel I have a new Irwin that cuts a .022" had an old one that was beat up but it still works but now the new one will just be frets no loaning to neighbors. The Shark saw is from CB Gitty and has  the not so snug kerf.E08ZR1.jpg

  • I've just bought and receive a shark saw not tried it out yet but it is very flexible.

so will have to stiffen it a bit.

    • Hope mine was a bad one and yours works out John . I just found and ordered an Irwin to match the beat up one I had . Amazon had it for $12.99 free shipping.
Item # Description Points Blade Length Handle Material

Well now I'll have 4 pull saws should have went Dan Sleeps way and did the Stew Mac saw. I'm a slow learner.
      • the shop I bought it from(USA) said ... Ultra thin blade will not bind while providing exceptionally smooth cuts.

also I saw another add in guitar tools said that they use it in all their fretting but wanted more for the same saw.so I bought the cheapest that I could find,

        • John I just made a few more cuts and the frets push in by hand and come out just as easy probably ok if you were gluing them in. That said try it on some scrap wood.
          • John did you try your saw yet? I got the new saw (Irwin) and will give it a try tonight. If your saw is too loose in kerf we should let Ben CB Gitty know. Ill try mine tonight.
