Does anyone have any experience flying with a CBG? I'm going to be traveling for 2 weeks on business (4 cities in 2 weeks) and thought I'd bring my CBG (beats watching mindless TV in the hotel room). I'm thinking of using my soft gig bag and trying carry-on.

Thanks

Play CBG in the airport. You'll probably be the most interesting person in the waiting area.
I have heard of people useing a cheap rifle case. Soft gig bag say good by to your guitar they way they pack the over head storage.
Hey there I have done it a number of times. I use a gig bag and have been able to put it in the overhead (usually on top of or next to someone else' soft side bag)  Remember you are only allowed two carry-on items so my briefcase goes under the seat in front of me and I have to check my regular bag. Since I have no status with any of the airlines that can cost me 25.00. Also I don't think there is an official policy on the subject so you could get stuck...Regardless last year I traveled 10 or 15 times with one Delta, US AIR and SouthWest. Good luck
The 2 pieces per head is not a standard! You will get stuck with airlines like RyanAir or Wizzair. Long-range flights are usually a bit more relaxed about the number (2 is usually OK) but a bit nervous about the size (don't forget - an average guitar is almost 3 feet long). You may call the airline and ask (it worked for me).

BE VERY CAREFUL!!! Too many folks lately are trying to avoid the baggage fees and there is little to no room in the overheads! You might be better off shipping if you have to or somehow gate checking it (to be retrieved when disembarking the plane, not at baggage claim). Kinda like gatechecking a stroller. Call the airline to see if they have suggestions or can do what you want.

Build a guitar which is 24 inches long and will fit in your suitcase. Check out this bass I did http://skeesixcbgs.com/blog-2/page/2/ (the purple thing about halfway down the page).
Well, thanks for all of the input. I think I'm going to go for it. Hey, what's the worse that can happen? If it gets broken I'll just build another. Besides, I'm planning on building another one when I get back from the trip. Although, I really like Skeesix's idea of building a 24 inch guitar to fit in the suitcase. I'm definitely building one when I get back (unless I get it done sooner...don't tell the wife, she thinks I will be doing chores all weekend).
How good is your Johnny Depp impersonation (see Celebs who play CBGs)?

:-)
luv  that bass man  ;-)

One of my regular customers travels worldwide with a 34" scale diddly bow, and has had no trouble at all with checking it on as hand luggage.

The only issue he had was the bullet bridge. The US customs didnt like it much, but unless you can throw a duff bullet really really hard, you aint going to do much damage.....

Hey Skeesix, nice bass.

I thought I'd take Skeesix's advice and tonight I started my travel guitar. It's going to have to go in my checked bag so I figure I can get away with 26 inches max. If I keep everything compact that should give me a 22 inch scale. I'll post pics when I finish.
