I’ve seen some with the plate recessed, but mostly screwed into blocks of wood in the corners? Gitty makes one that screws to the box top? Have you tried searching the site for reference? Up at the way top right is the “Search” box, it’ll lead you to whatever you type in, or better yet, if you search the pics, I sure there’s a bunch of construction details there? YouTube also has some build videos? Cheers

Hi, there are a few things that I think about before settling on a building design, these focus on what sound I want. And in this case, it would go like this.
1- Acoustic or electric
2- Acoustic and electric
3- Natural -ish sound
4- Tinny sound a la Resonator-ish
5- Is the plate for show or function?

All this keeping in mind I’m using a license plate and building my own boxes.
1- Acoustic sound is best achieved with the soundboard having no contact with the plate.
2- Same as above but using a piezo pickup.
3- Wood top with plate not touching it, bridge sitting on wood top through openings cut in plate.
4- Suspending the plate on its borders [with no wood top] would of course produce the tinny sound.
5- If for show only I would mount the plate on a wooden top and fit a magnetic pickup. The all-Electric guitar.

Don’t forget to allow for soundholes if going for a more acoustic sound.

Hi again, here's what I mean. A wood top with the plate floating off of the top and the bridge is mounted on the wood top itself. Although I got a good acoustic sound it was slightly muffled by the plate, but a good sound from the soundholes.

I’m working on the same project. I had planned on just fitting the plate on top of the box.

Just noticed your post and you're probably long finished the build, this is my latest LPG. Two pieces of wood set down 1/8" glued along the top of the box sides. Normally I screw the plate directly to these but this plate is so thin that I glued it to a piece of 2.5mm ply first

Great idea Michael, I bet that cut out all the nasty overtones that come from a rattling plate?
