Hey all,

I'm building a 4 string cbg and I've noticed that the strings hop off the bridge when I pluck or finger pick the strings. Any remedies out there? I'm using a piece off half inch angle metal for the string/tail with the holes drilled low to the surface of the lid and a 1/4 inch bolt for a bridge.

  • It sounds like you don't have enough of a string angle. Or there is not enough string tension due to tuning too low or the wrong gauge of strings.

  • Can you post a pic of the box, sometimes questions are answered better when we can see the problem.

  • Sounds like there`s not enough down pressure on the strings at the bridge. One remedy...remove the strings....take small eye screws and stick them between the bridge and tailpiece.....restring the build fishing the strings through the eye screws then to the tailpiece.  That might work to give more down pressure to the bridge. Even a string tree between bridge and tailpiece would work too.
