Hi all, today I read a thread about Townes Van Zandt which led me research (go on Youtube) him further. This is an artist that I had no knowledge of before and I was delighted when I looked him up. Thanks to Oily for this.

So I thought I would start a discussion where we could list interesting artists that may be obscure overseas or unique or anything that you like that you feel may appeal to others. Its not a thread to list Black Sabbath or Zeppelin but something a little different.

I will start the ball rolling with a few that some of you may like.

Black Carrot

Mark Lanegan

I'd suggest WOVEN HAND - very dark Gothic Country Music with that really weird singer David Eugene Edwars. The most fantastic music ever. Check them out at www.rockpalast.de . Edwards plays Banjo and Slide-Guitar in minor tunings and has a manic but beautiful voice.

Thorsten, Brilliant.

Sam Mitchell

Thanks for asking. Enjoy, Keni Lee

Keni, excellent.  I can see his influence in some of you playing. Thanks for the links.

Choice pick, thanks for that Keni!

Thanks Keni, I like a good rag so Sam Mitchell's right up my street. He was the guitarist in The Sandmen? I think I had a tape of theirs I picked up for 50p somewhere. Hated it! But I like Mitchell's own stuff very much.

My recommendation for today is Curtis Eller's American Circus.

http://www.curtiseller.com/

Curtis Eller New York City's, self proclaimed, angriest yodelling banjo player. Seeing him play live is an experience and a half. He prowls the gig, high kicking and spinning his way through the audience, while playing his trusty banjo. His songs are bathed in deep deep Americana, featuring performing elephants, circus fires, pigeon racing and presidential assassinations. I challenge anyone not to me moved to tears when they  join in with emotional chorus to Save Me Joe Lewis.

Check out After The Soil Fails and Alaska

You can listen to his three albums and one EP here: http://curtiseller.bandcamp.com/

Ben Lacy from Lexington, KY. He plays in a style similar to Tuck Andress (playing "drums", bass, rhythm and lead guitar all at the same time on guitar), but I think he's even better.

The audio quality is kind of distorted on this, but you'll get the idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFyd04Yenlc

Oh yeah, "melts my face" as the kiddos would say!

One of the very best slide players Ellen McIllwayne! From Canada

i would recommend Pascal Comelade and his toy instruments, or buddy stuart? (don't know why his music is such rarities while it is use a lot in T.V and movies..)

i didn't know many things except mark lanegan ( saw him in antwerpeen some weeks ago, was an amazing performance) and wovenhand,  so thanks all for sharing good music!

hey, i discovered a lot of great stuff here too, thanks to tikigraham...

Wow, I really like Pascal Comelade, batshit crazy stuff! Thanks for the heads up, Calim

This stuff is great. Do check out Black Carrot they are a very unusual act.
